2023 Pinot Gris, Oregon 750ml
The fruit is sourced from a spectacular site at 1000’ elevation with several own-rooted clones, from 35+ year old-vines
(Barn block). Shallow, poor soils tend to naturally reduce yields and enhance expression. Stylistically, expresses an old-world
complexity, wonderful vibrancy with a depth of fruit that compliments the palate-coating presence.
Just over six tons were harvested from an average of 3 tons/acre yields. We’ve been fortunate to craft wines from this
excellent vineyard over the last 16 years which yields tremendous Pinot Gris reminiscent of an old-world site. The
Dampier vineyard sits high above the Columbia River looking down on White Salmon. It is both a cool site and
complimented by shallow soils. Rigorous vineyard management, and a complimentary sustainability philosophy, yield
ripeness with acidity to craft this wine for complexity, depth and longevity… reminiscent of Grand Cru vineyards. The
wine is aged 5 months in 25% French Nomblot concrete eggs & 75% stainless steel tank. The grapes were cooled prior
to processing and whole cluster pressing took place in order to capture the essence and freshness of the fruit. Each lot
was fermented separately, ultimately blended, aged and stirred gently on the lees and fermented to dry. Select yeasts
were chosen to complement and preserve the unique varietal components. The finished wine includes only partial
malolactic fermentation.
