2018 Family Estate Pinot Noir - 93WS
TASTING NOTES: Ruby red, opens with pretty ripe dark cherries and cranberries that meld seamlessly with underlying wild herbs, dried flowers, spice & tea notes. On the palate, layers of sweet Bing cherries dance across the tongue, while the seamlessly integrated acidity balances nicely with the expansive, bright texture. Medium finish, with fine and noble, silky tannins. Full-bodied and deliciously seductive now; but one would be wise to bet on its future when the roundness gives way to increased nuances. We suggest aging for a least a year to let the wine settle and develop in bottle. Drink now - 12 years.
Our flagship blend from our Biodynamically farmed Estate Vineyard in the Chehalem Mountains A.V.A. 100% Pinot noir from our East, Middle and West Blocks. Clones include Pommard, Wädenswil, Dijon 113, 114, 115, 667, 777 and a 'suitcase clone' (L.T.). Crafted in a classical / balanced style for conmplexity and ageworthiness.
The 2018 vintage was warm & ideal with slightly lower than average yields. We dropped fruit several times – down to 1-2 clusters alternating per shoot as well as wings & shoulders. Grapes were picked for freshness & maturity and were then meticulously sorted in the field as well as winery. Extended cold soak, primarily native fermentations pump-overs and gentle punch-downs.
